Our
Beginnings.
The
Presentation Brothers were founded by Edmund Rice in
Waterford, Ireland in 1802 during a time of great suffering
and injustice for the Irish people. In
1996 Pope John Paul II beatified Edmund Rice, founder
of the Presentation Brothers and the Christian Brothers. |
| North
America & West Indies.
We
are an international Catholic religious congregation
of Brothers. In North America, the Brothers have communities
in Kissimmee, Florida and Toronto, Ontario. In the West
Indies, we have two communities in St. Lucia and another
community in Grenada.
Vowed Commitment.
In common with
all religious orders in the Catholic tradition, we
commit ourselves to love, to share and to serve. We
strive to live a simple and loving lifestyle at the
service of our brothers and sisters. We try to be
open to the presence and call of God, in our lives
and in the people we encounter each day.

Community.
As
Brothers, community living is central to our lives. |
|
Community involves praying and sharing faith together,
promoting values of love, forgiveness, caring, integrity
and wholeness. Community means building friendship and
being there for one another in good times and bad. |
Moving
to the Margins.
Our work involves education, social and community service,
missionary work, promoting the rights and dignity of
the disadvantaged, especially those who are young. |

Brotherhood
– Following Jesus.
Jesus’ fundamental way of relating with people
was a brother. The Religious Brother models himself
on Jesus and moves among the people of God as a fellow
worker, a fellow searcher and a fellow sufferer. |
Rebirth.
We believe we are in transition to a new brotherhood
and a new form of religious life. Our world
needs the Edmund Rice vision of education as
liberation, as leading to that fullness of life
of which Jesus spoke. Today the Brothers work
in partnership with the wider Presentation Family
of associates and lay people. More and more
young people are being attracted to this mission.
Mary.
As Presentation Brothers we have a special devotion
to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We honor Mary
in her presentation of her own life to God and
in her presentation of Jesus to the world. |
